ASIAN HORNET : Danger to the Glory Bees!!

 hornet-spotting

You may have heard in the news that there is great danger to our honey bees from the Asian Hornet, which has been found in large numbers in France and the Channel Islands, and in isolated pockets in England, mainly in the South at the moment.
The Asian Hornet is one inch long, and preys on the much smaller honey bee. It lurks under the hive and
grabs the bee as it returns laden with pollen, kills it and feeds its wing muscles to its own larvae.
We are asked to keep a keen eye out for it and report any sightings immediately.
This picture should help you recognise one. You could perhaps take a photo of it to reference on your phone. If you spot one in real life, take a photo and email it to alertnonnative@ceh.ac.uk, or use the Asian hornet App.
